Removal of refractory around boiler tubes using Hydro-demolition at the Hazelwood Power Station in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria
Silver Raven Operators worked around the clock to complete the hydro-demolition removal of spent refractory from around boiler tubes at the Hazelwood Power Station.
The work was already underway with jack hammers and five days behind schedule when Silver Raven arrived on site. Jack hammering has always been used on previous occasions which is both time consuming and causes expensive damage to the tubes. The Hydro-demolition method used by Silver Raven was safely carried out and proved to be much faster so the job was soon back on schedule. In addition there was no further damage to the tubes or cracking to adjoining sound sections of refractory making the whole exercise far more efficient and cost effective for the client.
